This might be the broadest scale, earliest accessible Nervo we have made, and we could not be happier with it. Despite the vineyard being located in Geyserville, which is warmer than some of our other sites, the east-facing slopes of decomposed granite combined with 8 years of no-till farming allowed the vineyard to handle the early heat of September as well as any vineyard we saw. The old vines, picked on September 6th, a few days after the heat subsided, were in fantastic shape, and the three old blocks planted in 1896 and the early 1930s were cofermented with each other. Composed of 18+ varieties with the spicy and peppery Negrette, Grenache, Trousseau, and Alicante complimenting the rich base of Zinfandel, this is a wonderfully expressive version of Nervo that balances rich fruit fleshiness with the natural elegance of the site. One of our favorite wines of the vintage.
